Fertility fid. Fully 3 dimensional depiction of fertility goddess Atabey as a bird. Fids were used to open young maidens to sexual encounters after having their first period. This is a common practice among PreColumbian cultures. However, the Taino were the only culture to use embellished stone fids. Eyes are pierced to connect and join to a tube drilled down through the top of the head. The ankles are pierced as well.. Two bands of female symbols encircle fid.
