Elbow stone with bird man effigy. This type of ceremonial object appears to have evolved from belts or collars. It has been argued that these stones were sections of broken belts. This may be the case but the ends are finished to a taper indicating renovation. Considering the rarity of elbow stones it seems plausible they were indeed reconstituted fragments of belts or collars.
